A technology expert has claimed children are being let down by the poor standard of computer training in many UK schools.
Writing in the Independent, Ian Livingstone said the British education system is in danger of producing a "generation of digital illiterates" that will ultimately damage the economy.
The life president of UK video game publisher Eidos suggested that computer science is not taught properly, despite the proliferation of technological devices in everyday life.
"There are computers in our classrooms but, for the most part, they are not used effectively," Mr Livingstone commented.
His remarks, which echo recent criticism of the ICT curriculum by other industry experts, suggest further IT training and computer courses could be useful for people who have left school without acquiring the skills they need.
John Hoggard, programme manager at technology trade body Intellect, said earlier this year that ICT lessons are failing pupils in their current form.
