Students graduating this summer are going to find it tough to get a job, according to the Association of Graduate Recruiters.
Carl Gilleard, chief executive of the organisation, told the Financial Times: "We live in hope 2010 will be a better year, but it is equally possible that this will carry over for another 12 months."
Graduates looking to improve their career prospects might want to consider doing an IT course or completing computer training which may make their CVs look more attractive.
Mr Gilleard added that students should not start to panic about their long-term career plans, adding that it is a "myth" that being unable to find the job they want this year will permanently damage their future plans.
He believes that in the next few years, employers will be looking for older graduates who have more "life experience".
Last month, Escape Studios announced it was launching three-day taster programmes over the summer for graduates interested in learning about the IT industry.
