Plans for the creation of more than 20,000 new apprenticeships across the public sector over the course of the next two years have been announced by the government.
Hospitals and town halls across the country will offer more opportunities for young people, while extra placements will be offered by firms involved in rebuilding schools.
The government is looking to expand the number of apprenticeships offered by the public sector in order to better reflect the sector's dominance within the UK workforce.
John Denham, the skills secretary, told the Telegraph: "The public sector places we are talking about today are great news for those looking for an apprenticeship but also represent the government's commitment to leading by example."
He added the development would help ensure that the UK had a workforce trained with all the skills necessary when the economy begins to recover.
Expanding training opportunities may encourage more young people to seek computer training and explore the possibility of an IT career.
A recent survey from the Children's Society found that nearly ten per cent of young people are neither in training programmes nor education.
