An industry expert has given his advice on how the recession has affected IT training and service provision and what can be done.
Writing for the National Computing Centre, Mike Summers, general manager of ILX Group's performance support solutions, says technology and training are more important than ever.
He says: "There is always a need for ongoing training and support."
Without this, he adds, productivity levels can drop. Mr Summers cited news that last November over a thousand MPs, peers and civil servants could not open a Microsoft Word 2007 file attachment sent to them.
He recommended that training be carried out in short bursts on the job to help people remember what they have learned.
"Research shows that individuals retain learning better if it is presented in the context of their job function and undertaken when they are receptive - what better time than when they actually need to know?" Mr Summers added.
