Businesses should provide their employees with IT training aimed at teaching them how to thoroughly assess the content of emails.
That is according to one IT expert, who has pointed out that messages sent while distracted - whether this be by rage, boredom or even alcohol - could have serious recriminations for both an individual and their organisation.
"They have to tell their employees to think about it as they are committing stuff to the record and if there's a dispute or a problem it's going to be very hard to cope with," Rupert Goodwins, editor of ZDNet.co.uk, explained.
"For people who don't think in these terms there's some learning to be done."
Significantly, this advice comes soon after research carried out by Dimension Data found that email has now overtaken the telephone as the preferred method of communication in the office.
However, it was also found that email is still viewed as the least secure and most distracting method of communication, suggesting an ongoing need for IT training among the nation's workforce.
