An organisation that specialises in e-learning through gaming programmes and virtual reality has won a training initiative award.
Skills2Learn, based in Milton Keynes, has developed a computer training facility for students looking to develop their skills in the solar energy sector and won an accolade for Training Initiative of the Year at the H&V News Awards.
The winning programme offers interactive media with a mix of 2D and 3D images and brings together a variety of organisations including trade associations and sector skills councils.
Dr Majid Al-Kader, managing director of Skills2Learn, said: "The technology we used within the programme is extremely engaging and allows students to learn practical skills in a safe, virtual reality environment, by creating the kind of graphics and interactivity that is found in advanced computer games."
He added that the technology could be applied to a range of separate industries and is not limited to the solar sector.
In related news, a survey commissioned by the British Computer Society found that the majority of young people aged 16 to 30 recognise the importance of computer training as a skill.
