Government plans to stimulate the economy and help more young people into work could increase activity in the IT industry.
Chancellor Alistair Darling has announced in his pre-Budget report an extension to the government's Future Jobs Fund initiative that will guarantee young people who have been out of work for six months or more access to a job, work placement or training place.
The scheme for 18 to 24-year-olds was first introduced for 12 months in the last Budget, but Mr Darling has announced it will be extended for another year in the hope that it will help reduce the number of young people struggling to find employment during the recession.
The announcement could result in more young people gaining access to IT training and developing the skills to take up IT careers in the future.
Mr Darling's pre-Budget report added: "The guarantee includes 100,000 new Future Jobs Fund jobs for young people as well as adults in areas hardest hit by the downturn."
The government is keen to encourage more young people to undertake training courses and other placements in order to cut the number who are unemployed.
The recession has resulted in many young people being unable to find work, as employers are choosing to hire those with experience and jobs are in short supply.
