Cyber threat boosts IT training

Companies are increasingly providing staff with more IT training in an effort to combat rising internet crime.

Research from the Computer Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) has revealed businesses are sending 50 per cent more staff for IT training than two years ago, with the threat of cyber crime being a main contributor to the rise.

"Most respondents feel that IT security certification for IT staff improves security, especially through risk identification and quick response to security issues," said Hugo Lueders, senior director of public policy at CompTIA.

He added: "The primary cause for the most severe security breaches remains unintentional in nature and typically caused by human error. This demonstrates a need for more employee training and deeper knowledge of technology functions."

Last month, IT firm Unisys warned the recession could spark a rise in cyber crime.

The company explained people who would not usually break the law could become cyber criminals as it becomes more and more difficult to find work.
