Kendal College in Cumbria has been awarded a £1 million grant to develop digital and creative services through the creation of a new building.
The investment from the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) will enable the college to purchase adjacent land, on which it will build a new facility and expand its curriculum.
The move could result in a variety of new IT courses being developed as the college focuses on its provision of digital services.
Steven Broomhead, chief executive of the NWDA, said: "The purchase of the brownfield land is just the first step towards increasing the number of higher level skills over a five year period and increasing opportunities for self-employment."
A state-of-the-art new building could offer a wide range of courses and help train people in the region to be part of the global digital revolution, which is expected to lead the world out of recession by creating a host of new job opportunities in the future.
Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News has recently reported that a technology company spun out of Manchester University has been provided with £580,000 of investment to help it expand its operations.
