Course could help youth workers understand cyber-bullying

12:45 16th April 2009

Youth workers in Lincolnshire are being offered training to help them develop an understanding of how young people can be bullied on the internet.

Isaac Newton Primary in Grantham will host the first ThinkuKnow Ambassador Course on the evening of April 21st, to help youth workers who are engaged in computer training with young people aged between 11 and 16.

Lesson plans and films will be some of the ways in which individuals who work with young people could approach the subject of online safety, reports Community Newswire.

Bex Mezzo, with the Lincolnshire Council for Voluntary Youth Services, told the website: "The idea is to help people working with children and young people to be able to talk to them about the risks they take when using internet chat-rooms and social networking sites."

She added that the first meeting is due to be attended by youth workers, headteachers and sports club staff.

While many adults are aware of how to secure their computers and internet connections, a lot are simply not taking the necessary precautions, according to business network protection firm Sophos.
