Computer training facility to help RNLI personnel

An advanced computer training facility is being used to improve the skills of personnel of the Royal National Lifeboats Institution (RNLI), according to a report.

Two of the special trailers are being toured around the UK's coast to train personnel in the use of global positioning systems and radar, both of which could potentially be used to save lives during a real rescue operation, reports the Eastern Daily Press.

Up until just a few years ago, staff had to travel to the RNLI College in Dorset, but now time can be saved by bringing the computer training facilities to them.

Peter White, an RNLI instructor, told the website: "These trainees have almost gone from zero to hero - from having no knowledge to having so much that the coxswain can rely on them to do the job we want them to do, which is to save lives at sea."

The facilities can replicate conditions in a variety of UK ports and they remove the need to use real equipment and resources for training purposes.

In related news, 24dash.com recently reported that a virtual reality system is being used to train construction professionals.
