Computer training facilities in new library

09:27 4th March 2009

Computer training facilities are to be provided as part of an array of new features at the Hebden Bridge library in the Yorkshire Pennines.

Following a period of refurbishment and building extension, the new library will be opened on Saturday March 14th, while renowned author Joanne Harris will conduct an official opening a week later on March 21st.

New areas designed for children and teenagers will be provided as part of the additional resources offered by the library, while new computer equipment will facilitate home learning and provide web access to local residents.

Councillor Ian Cooper, community services portfolio holder, said: "The new and improved library will be a great boost for the town and offers the most up-to-date and modern facilities, while preserving the character of the original building."

The changes have been made with environmental considerations in mind, with energy-efficient boilers in use and solar film being fitted to the windows.

Childnet International recently urged parents to familiarise themselves with social networking websites in order to better protect their children.
