Computer training could help people back into work

10:04 26th January 2009

Computer training could help more people back into work as there are still lots of jobs currently available in the market.

According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), people who have been made redundant may not find further opportunities in the same sector, but branching out by pursuing additional training could lead to more options.

The institute advised that given the current state of the economy and rising unemployment, several government programmes have been designed to help people find new jobs.

Dr John McGurk, advisor on skills and learning for the CIPD, said: "It's about people basically using training as a way of getting back in the labour market for jobs; some are there now and many more will be there in the future."

He added that it was difficult to predict what jobs would be available and what opportunities would present themselves, owing to fluctuations in the current economy.

Recent figures from the Office for National Statistics showed that 115,000 people lost their jobs during the third quarter of last year.
