Computer training centres threatened by lack of funds

16:00 25th February 2009

Three separate learning centres around Great Yarmouth face an uncertain future due to a lack of funds for adult education, reports the Great Yarmouth Mercury.

Caister High, Greenacre and Bradwell Community Library have helped around 3,000 people over several years to seek computer training and additional adult education, but a lack of money could see this brought to a halt.

East Norfolk Sixth Form College has funded the centres for the past few years mean that the money may no longer be available to keep them running.

Jim Edmonds, who has been running the centres, told the paper: "Adult education funding disappeared three years ago but the college kept us on in the hope it would come back. They have been paying for us out of their own pocket. But there is just nothing out there for us."

Closure of the centres would mean five redundancies as well as an important service lost for the local community.

More people are seeking computer training in a bid to improve their skill-set and make them more able to find a new job.
