A centre in Palmers Green which provides IT training for local elderly residents has received a funding boost from the lottery, reports the Enfield Independent.
The Ruth Winston Centre has been awarded nearly £10,000 and will use the funding to provide computer training courses twice weekly for a period of six months.
Many local people use the centre's resources to learn about computing and use the internet to discover more about their family history or do the weekly shop.
Chris Rash, chairman of trustees at the centre, told the paper: "The provision of computer tuition and training will encourage more people to become computer literate, which anyone can access, irrespective of their ethnicity."
Mr Rash added that IT training enables more people to become familiar with new technology, while email facilitates communication with distant family members.
Courses are planned to begin in September.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development recently advised workers to actively pursue training opportunities that may come their way.
