Charities seeking help from volunteers with IT training

09:47 25th February 2009

People with computer training are in high demand to help charities run more efficiently and help them to establish effective web presences.

ComputerWeekly.com reports that IT4Communities is actively seeking people with IT backgrounds who can help plug the gaps in technical knowledge that are prevalent among many charities.

The demand is primarily from smaller charities but help is needed to design effective websites and to help staff with many more basic computer tasks.

Yewande Olowande, an IT consultant from west London, has helped six charities over the years and told the website: "I enjoy the idea of helping people who cannot afford good-quality IT consultants. I found the charities were getting sub-standard service, despite paying a lot of money."

Ms Olowande added that she helped to maintain databases so that family trees could be accurately researched.

IT training could be a good way for people to get additional work or even as a way of pursuing IT careers.

The Press Association recently reported plans to encourage more older women to use the internet.
