More needs to be done to improve the quality of IT training within businesses in the UK, according to one expert.
Gilly Salmon, who leads the University of Leicester's Beyond Distance Research Alliance, points out that although many schools are currently tapping into modern technology as a tool to educate young people, businesses are often failing to follow suit.
This means that IT training and other educational approaches to improving the skills of staff are not as effective as they could be, suggesting a higher level of IT knowledge might be needed within companies.
Speaking to News Blaze, Ms Salmon said: "It's a tragedy when someone from the corporate training world comes in and talks to me about what is going on in e-learning and then says, 'I wish I'd known about all this five years ago'."
The government has recently increased its focus on IT skills in the education system, with a recent report claiming IT education in junior schools should be considered as important as reading, writing and arithmetic.
