Businesses advised to take lead on staff IT training

16:05 9th June 2008

Companies owe it to themselves and their employees to make sure the right IT training takes place at the right time, one expert has claimed.

Andy Dent, managing director of Innovit, told the Birmingham Post that most businesses have a core set of IT skills that employees are required to have.

As well as checking that potential recruits have these skills, managers need to watch that existing staff are not being left behind.

"Companies have a duty to train people so they can carry out their tasks efficiently – and workers in turn must respond positively rather than just say 'I can’t do that'," Mr Dent explained.

He recommended that businesses make assessment of IT skills - and any IT training that may follow - part of their appraisal procedures.

Innovit is a vendor of Microsoft products serving a range of clients in the commercial and education sectors.
