Business networking championed over social networking alternative

Businesses which send their staff on networking courses or use business networking sites will benefit more than companies reliant on social networking sites, it has been claimed.

According to Martin Warner, co-founder of TalkBizNow.com, the main advantage of business networking over social networking is that the former is designed specifically with business people in mind.

As a result, users are likely to be able to find the information they require more quickly.

"The main benefit of business networking over social networking is that you start from a business context, in terms of the data architecture," Mr Warner commented.

"If we look at the data on Facebook, for example, it is very socially driven. Whereas if you go to [business networking sites] you find that we need more information about each other's identity within business - your role, your department, your company, industry, and other information which is useful."

The 'Network Citizens: Power and Responsibility at Work' report conducted by Demos and Orange showed that improved ties between businesses can be mutually beneficial.

Companies can help each other by sharing contacts and information.
