Business booming for IT security

Individuals considering a change of employment might like to consider programming courses, following a new report into the health of the enterprise software industry.

Sales of security programs are booming, according to market analyst Gartner, which recorded an upward surge of almost 20 per cent in 2007, compared to the previous year.

The security program market was found to be worth an estimated $10.4 billion (£5.3 billion last year).

Following the completion of a programming course, the next step will be to take on a new IT job. Based on Gartner's study, Symantec and McAfee could be a good place to start, as these are the dominant forces in the sector.

Ruggero Contu, principal research analyst at Gartner, said that spending on security software has been driven by "compliance, data leakage and privacy issues, along with the need to tackle the fast evolving and sophisticated threat environment".

One of the IT courses offered by Computeach which has security at its core is the Implementing and administering security in a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 network programme.
