British consumers connected to the internet are ignoring new deals that offer them faster speeds.
Comparison website Consumerchoices.co.uk has revealed that despite there being a market full of quicker connection packages and deals at cheaper prices, users remain on older tariffs.
The site's product director Michael Phillips has urged users to "shop around for a better deal using an Ofcom accredited comparison service to find out what is available in their area".
Without having taken a networking course or working in the IT industry, it is highly likely some web users are unaware of the latest developments.
Currently many connections are via BT's older copper cables, although they are slowly being upgraded with a fibre network, which will offer faster connection speeds.
One company has even run fibre cables through city sewers. The i3 group say the new set up is so fast, it is possible for users in Sheffield to connect at 100Mbps.
