A new research project to be undertaken by Bristol University hopes to end computer hacking by redesigning computers.
The uni's department of computer science is to investigate how processors could be better protected against malicious attack.
Thanks to a £800,000 grant a team of experts will investigte how to redesign processors to help make them more resilient.
"This grant will enable us to build on our existing strengths and work towards establishing Bristol as a world class centre for research in secure processor architectures," said head of department Professor Nishan Canagarajah.
By altering the micro-architecture of a processor they can become less obvious to hackers looking to target them.
The funding was awarded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, which helps provide government funding for grants.
IT courses often cover security issues and for a more in-depth knowledge applicants could investigate the syllabus of current computer courses.
