BCS to offer green computer training certificate

16:30 7th May 2009

A new computer training course in green IT practices is to be initiated by the British Computer Society, in partnership with training provider QA.

People undertaking the new course will learn about how to pursue more environmentally-friendly computer practices and also how to ensure their business is run in accordance with new green legislation set out in the European Union Code of Conduct for data centres.

Over three days, students will learn about carbon accounting in relation to how businesses can reduce their emissions and protect the environment, while also helping to lower business costs in the current economic climate.

The organisation is to first launch a three-month pilot period in the UK, before taking the course around the world depending on its level of success.

Individuals enrolling on the course will sit a one-hour exam after the three days and will receive a qualification if they prove successful.

In related news, the Evening Post reports that many people are attracted to computer training courses due to the prospect of meeting like-minded individuals.
